"Beat & Release": Narc Cop Driving a Maserati, Cripples Lawyer Who Passed Him on Highway

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 28 June 2023)

Matching the drug barons' lifestyle - for cover purposes, of course.

Policeman Hüseyin Tayfun Üçgül, driving a Maserati automobile
registered in his wife's name, broke the leg of lawyer Fatih Uzun
because Uzun passed him on the highway.  Üçgül is assigned to the
narcotics team (!) in Dalaman district of Muğla province.

According to an indictment prepared by the Manisa public prosecutor,
Istanbul lawyer Fatih Uzun was driving with his wife and two children
from Izmir to Istanbul on 22 April.  Around Soma, he saw two drivers
arguing with each other in front of him.  Uzun wanted to avoid this
confrontation and passed Üçgül's Maserati.  Enraged, Üçgül pursued
Uzun and cut him off, forcing him to stop on the shoulder of the
highway.  Then, Üçgül beat up Uzun, breaking his leg in two places. (!)

A sentence of 6 years 10 months has been requested by the prosecutor
for Üçgül and the first hearing will be held on 3 July.

Uzun explained to Hürriyet that "It was the Ramazan holiday and we
were returning to Istanbul as a family with my wife and our two small
children.  Because I wanted to avoid the arguing drivers I passed the
Maserati, whose driver was incensed by this, caught up to me and
forced me to the side of the road. Then he beat me up, breaking my
leg in two places below my knee using an attack technique. My kids
were screaming as he terrorized us."

"I wanted a blood sample taken from him and the camera images from
his car seized but the prosecutor wouldn't do either of these.  Üçgül
even had a gun in his waistband and his wife and three children were
with him.  He intentionally crippled me - now I have to use a cane to
walk.  Lots of information about him is pouring in now.  He seems to
be quite a bad fellow.  The Maserati, worth 30 million TL (over $1
million), is registered in his wife's name and they live in a villa and
stay in luxury hotels.  Yet, he's supposed to be just a regular policeman.
There needs to be an investigation about him.   An administrative
inquiry is underway."

Üçgül has worked in police narcotics and smuggling offices since
2017 and now has a very luxurious lifestyle.  He has been involved
in many judicial incidents and, as a result, he is under investigation
as a suspect. Uzun has requested that MASAK (Turkish Treasury
Dept.'s financial crimes unit) look into Üçgül's finances and that he
be fired from the police force.

"Beat & Release": He Confessed to Shooting Them, They Claimed it Wasn't Him, in Bursa

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 27 June 2023)

Left & right: toilet-training failures; center: chivalrous confessor.

In Bursa's Yıldırım district, Ayberk Demirok confessed to shooting Fuat
Gürbüz and Cihangir Muratoğlu but the victims asserted that someone
other than Demirok shot them so they did not file police complaints
against Demirok. (!)

The incident took place in a wooded area of Yıldırım on 18 February,
when Muratoğlu (40) and  Gürbüz (35) were relieving themselves (sans
toilet facilities) while drinking together and Demirok (23) was strolling
nearby with his girlfriend M.K..  Demirok scolded the two, who then laughed
and made fun of Demirok for his excessive propriety.  Enraged, Demirok
fired his unlicensed revolver at the two, wounding them.

While Muratoğlu and Gürbüz were being taken to a hospital, Demirok
turned himself in to the police.  Demirok was jailed and at his first court
hearing he stated that "they were coming after me so I shot my unlicensed
gun, which I'd bought for 4,000 TL, at their feet.  I didn't know them before
and there was no enmity between us.  I request release from jail."

In response to a question at the hearing by the judge, Demirok said that he
shot his gun with his right hand.  However (!), Gürbüz asserted that it
wasn't Demirok who shot him.  Explaining further, Gürbüz stated that
"the shooter was taller and bigger than him, in fact much taller.  The
shooter stood behind his girlfriend as he shot at me and he was lefthanded.
I have no complaint against the suspect at this hearing."

Muratoğlu concurred with Gürbüz's statement, insisting that the person
who shot them was not Demirok.  Consequently, the court released
Demirok, on the condition that he not leave the country.  The astonished
judge noted that "In my 20 years as a judge this is the first time I've
released someone who'd said 'I'm guilty'".  Witness M.K. will be required
to appear at the next hearing to give her testimony.

This eyewitness has refused to cooperate with the police.

Last Sunday in Eyüpsultan, Istanbul, a gas station attendant saw a
crow drop two cut-off toes to the ground (!).  The toes were brought to
the police forensic lab for prints and DNA analysis.  A murder
investigation was started on the likelihood that the toes belonged to a
murder victim.

The preliminary autopsy performed at the forensic lab determined
that the toes were very probably from the same foot and had been
cut with a sharp instrument, very likely a surgical lancet.  The toes
may have been cut off by a surgeon at a hospital.  (stay tuned!)

"Beat & Release": Dog Orders Man to Kill Friend (!), in Kırşehir

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 23 June 2023)

Defendant shamelessly wore this hat in court!

Hamdi Aydoğan (30), an animal tender who lived in Boztepe district of
Kırşehir province, left his home on 31 July 2022 but did not return.
Based on his family's missing person report, drones went airborne and
Aydoğan's body was located in a vacant field on 2 August.  The autopsy
showed that he had been strangled to death.

Police determined that Aydoğan had last talked with Bayram Erdoğdu
(31), who stole four cows from Aydoğan and then killed him.  Erdoğdu's
lawyer claimed that his client was mentally unbalanced but a medical
report submitted to the court contradicted this claim.

In any case, Erdoğdu confessed to killing Aydoğan in court, explaining
that "we had a debt-repayment issue. I bought four cows from him and
signed an IOU for 40,000 TL.  But Hamdi claimed my debt to him was
actually 300,000 TL.  An argument erupted between us and I knocked
him unconscious with a hatchet blow.   Then, my dog (!) said to me
'I think you better kill him, otherwise, he'll kill you.'  So I used the rope
around my donkey's neck to strangle Hamdi."

Unimpressed by this explanation, the court sentenced Erdoğdu to life
in prison for the murder, with an additional 10-year sentence for stealing
the cows.  After the verdict, though, Erdoğdu was equally insistent,
declaring, "I do not accept the verdict in this case because I killed
him based on my dog's orders (!).  I killed him under orders!"

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 21 June 2023)

Teams from the Cyber Crimes Unit in Istanbul made an investigation of
some TikTok phenoms in light of the phenoms' disproportionate spending
and lavish lifestyles, in comparison to their incomes.  It was clear to the
teams that something fishy was going on.

It turned out that some people who stole credit cards were in cahoots with
the phenoms, such that by means of a convoluted arrangement "tokens"
sent by fans via credit cards during live TikTok broadcasts were converted
to money and a commission paid by the phenoms to the thieves.

More than 4,000 bank accounts belonging to 215 individuals were
examined in the investigation, which determined that 1.2 billion TL
(about $50 million (!)) in dirty money was involved.  Yesterday morning,
an operation was launched centered in Istanbul but including a total of
37 provinces to apprehend these 215 individuals.  Ultimately, 120 people
were taken into custody and 32 flats, 9 fields, 6 business places, a villa,
38 automobiles, partner shares in 14 companies, 1,700 bank and crypto
money accounts, 82,000 TL, $17,300, 6,650 Euros, 2 unlicensed guns,
1 blank-shooting gun, 93 bullets, drugs and a large amount of digital
material.

Among the phenoms arrested was Onur Sermik, who has 1.5 million
followers and 9,397,000 TL in his bank account; Fırat Özaltlar, who
has 785,000 followers and 4,560,000 TL in his account; Kenan Kerim

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 20 June 2023)

                              In reality, "to your health!"

In the run-up to "Kurban Bayram" (Feast of Sacrifice at end of June) a
worker at a farm in Mersin's Tarsus district made a cow drink a liquid
from a beer bottle and posted the scene on social media accompanied
by a song with the words "I drink, what's it to you! I get drunk, what's
it to you!"  (!)

Responding to negative reactions to the post, the Tarsus District
Agriculture and Forestry Directorate went into action and made an
investigation at the farm in question.  It was determined that the beer
bottle contained veterinary medicine so no punishment was administered.

The farm worker posted a new video asserting that he had been
misunderstood.  According to him, the cow chews plastic bottles so a
glass bottle was the best way to get the animal to drink the medicine.

"Beat & Release": "Fearless" Spider-Man Wannabe Kid Falls 5 Floors and Survives, in Arnavutköy

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 19 June 2023)

                     Soft landing not always guaranteed.

In Arnavutköy, Istanbul, five-and-half-year-old Berzan Korkmaz
(whose surname means "fearless" (!)) jumped fom his family's
home's fifth-floor window, inspired by Spider Man videos he'd
watched on his grandmother's cellphone. (!)

Berzan's 3-year-old brother Miran told their grandmother, making dinner
in the kitchen, that his brother had fallen.  The grandmother then informed
the boys' father Fatih Kormaz, a back-hoe operator, and he rushed home -
only to find Berzan without a scratch on him. (!)  Nevertheless, Berzan
stayed in a hospital for two days under observation but doctors released
him, amazed that the boy had survived the fall without injury.

Father Fatih Korkmaz related that "when I asked my son what happened
he said 'Dad, I flew like Spider-Man but my brother didn't jump with me.
When Spider-Man jumps he saves people.  My brother was going to save
me but he didn't and I fell to the ground.'  Berzan watched Spider-Man
videos on his grandmother's phone and kept saying 'I'll climb buildings
and fly like Spider-Man!'  Children shouldn't be allowed to watch such
things and I won't let him ever watch Spider-Man again."

Dr. Mehmet Çakmak, who treated Berzan, stated that "this week two
children came to our clinic for this reason.  Generally, we lose the
children in such incidents.  It's a miracle that Berzan suffered no bone
breaks or internal injuries. I've never encountered such a thing in my
professional career.  Berzan was lucky that he hit the ground in a
sitting position.  When falls like this happen people should not pick
up the person and should call 112 (911) right away because any wrong
movement of the victim could result in paralysis."

what I was doing. Something else was controlling me!" (!)

Nevertheless, the court sentenced Bilginer to four life terms in prison
for the murders and added on a 14-year sentence for the wounding.
Noting that Bilginer fled after the killings and showed no regret, he
did not qualify for any reductions in sentence.

                               What are best friends for?

On 10 June in Erzurum's Aziziye district, Farullah Özdemir (47) and
Georgian national Padine Avcı (35) told the Gendarmerie that they had
found Padine hanım's husband Ayhan Avcı (47) dead in the shack where
he was raising pigeons.  Examing the scene, the Gendarmerie discerned
that Avcı had been killed by a blow from a sharp object to his head.

Padine hanım explained to the Gendarmerie that "my husband was
arguing with someone on the phone and said to me 'I'm going to take
care of this matter.'  But when he didn't return at night I called his friend
(!) Fahrullah Özdemir.  We both went to the pigeon shack and found my

The Gendarmerie questioned the two as suspects and determined that
Özdemir's advances toward Padine hanım has disturbed Avcı and prompted
the argument between Padine hanım and Avcı.  Subsequently, Padine hanım
and Özdemir went to the pigeon shack and knocked Avcı unconscious with
a shovel, after which they beat him to death with a hatchet and a scythe. (!)

and they became drinking buddies.  From time to time the two met to
drink together but a month and a half ago, while drinking Çoşkun bit

When Ö.A. subsequently could not get any information from Akkuş
