"Beat & Release": Unleashed "Jako" Dog-napped but Police Sting Brings Happy Ending, in Istanbul

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 31 January 2023)

Thief's plea for mercy: "Too cute to resist!"

When Polina Çolak departed Istanbul on vacation she left her
Yorkshire Terrier "Jako" in the care of a female friend.  At around
noon on 20 January, the friend went to a park in Mecidiyeköy,
Istanbul, with her own dog on a leash and "Jako" was unleashed.
A man sitting on a bench in the park called to "Jako" and when
the dog came the man scooped him up and quickly fled the park.

Police reviewed security camera footage and identified the dog thief as
M.D., who has a police record of seven crimes.   Çolak appealed to the
thieves, saying "Jako is a part of our family.  I miss the scent so please
bring back Jako.  If you need money I'll give you 30,000 TL."  A
respondent to this plea confirmed that he had the dog and would return
it for the money.

But Çolak informed the police about this development and a sting was
set up for last Thursday.  When the thieves arrived at the agreed-upon
exchange point with "Jako" police nabbed M.Ç. and M.A., who were
both taken into custody, while "Jako" was turned over to Çolak.  M.Ç.
and M.A. were charged with "theft of an animal" but released (!).  As
for M.D., he is being sought by police as a fugitive.

There's a reason for a leash.

On 25 January, Turgay P. told his ex-wife Fitnet K (37) that he wanted
to talk with her so the two agreed to meet on a street in Çağlayan,
Istanbul, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.   As the two walked and talked,
an argument soon erupted between them and Turgay P. tried to take
Fitnet hanım's phone from her hand.  When she resisted, Turgay P.
pulled out a bread knife and assaulted Fitnet hanım with it right there
on the street in broad daylight.

However (!), although Turgay P. succeeded in grabbing Fitnet hanım's
phone, her thick coat prevented any serious injury from the stabbings.
Police then tracked down Turgay P., who has a long record of criminal
activity, brought him before a judge and he was jailed.

"Beat & Release": Serenity Elusive for Businessman Immersed in Buddhism/Taoism , in Istanbul

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 27 January 2023)

Buddhism is strictly against facial recognition.

In a court case heard in Istanbul's family court, P.E. claimed  that her
husband of 19 years C.E., who is the Turkey sales director for a famous
brand, was guilty of infidelity, drunkenness, fits of anger and violence
against her and their two children.  P.E. also claimed that C.E. spent a
large amount of money on lessons in Buddhism and Taoism from a
personal development expert and took "inziva" (seclusion) trips  to
China and India with the expert's group.

Most recently, C.E. was taking online lessons from a Chinese personal
development expert named "Master Sha" (!) and the Master's staff in
Turkey.  According to P.E., her husband continually engaged in "rituals"
in front of their children and began to write healthful "calligraphy"
messages in the air with his hand.  C.E. took moldy medicine that
harmed his kidneys, despite a warning from a doctor.  He confessed
to P.E. that he had been together with another women on one of his
"inziva" trips.  This was the last straw for P.E. who declared that the
marriage was beyond repair.

C.E. responded to P.E.'s divorce suit by characterizing all her claims as
baseless and he denied ever subjecting her and their children to violence.
After a year in court, the case has been decided and a divorce granted
to P.E., giving her custody of the children.  C.E.'s countersuit was
dismissed and he was ordered to pay P.E. 500,000 TL in material
compensation, 500,000 TL in emotional compensation, and 30,000 TL
per month as alimony.

the burned body of 15-year-old high school student Büşra Kabataş.  The

had been fired from a job in Büşra's mother Aylin Çetin's workplace, had
entered the home, bound the young girl's hands and feet, stabbed her 20

his tracks.

As Yaylacı was preparing to flee to Tokat he was apprehended by police,
charged with "murder with monstrous and torturous intent" and jailed.

Ankara narcotics police got a tip that Iranian drug dealers would be
bringing a large amount of methamphetamines to Ankara from
Istanbul for distribution by street sellers.

The drug dealers set out from Istanbul in two cars - one a lookout.
Police followed them for 200 kilometers and stopped the lookout
just outside Ankara, taking Türk Mustafa D. and Iranian Ebrahim
Motallebi into custody.

When the dealers in the other car, 10 kilometers back, got wind of
the lookouts' being arrested they turned around and tried to flee.
This car, with Hamit Alizadeh Silabi and Samad Chraghleh inside,
crashed into another vehicle.  Chraghleh, carrying 2.5 kilograms of
methamphetamines, started to run away but he was hit by a truck

methamphetamines spilled onto the highway.  Meanwhile, Silabi

Guiaunai Roustamova, who has a textile shop in Istanbul's Fatih district,
has been in a dispute with her landlord M .Ş. for the past year and a
half over a rent increase.  According to Roustamova, in June M.Ş.
wanted to increase her rent from 5,000 TL to 112,000 TL or the
equivalent of $6,000.  (!)

When Roustamova said she could not pay that amount of rent, M.Ş.
tried several ways to force her to leave.  In July, M.Ş. cut off the
electricity to Roustamova's shop and she was forced to light her
shop with a car battery.  In September, M.Ş. drilled holes in the floor
in the flat above Roustamova's shop and poured garlic water, oil and
laundry soap down to dissuade potential shoppers from visiting her
shop. (!)

Roustamova's shop and goods were damaged by this putrid flow from
above, to the tune of 100,000 TL.   She filed a complaint against M.Ş.,
who claimed that the rent increase Roustamova stated was wrong and
that the flow from above was the result of repairs that went awry.
Roustramova has been renting in M.Ş.'s building since 2018 but she
said that "since September I've been victimized, and the target of his

However, in her petition to the court, Sarıcan asserted that the payment

        A father at a great-grandfather age...or not.

Ankara businessman Yunus Ensari died last year at age 103.  Now his
grave has been opened for a second time in connection with a paternity
case and DNA samples taken from his remains.

According to the case file, in 1986 Ensari met Iranian Fariba Esin Ensari,
who had come to Ankara, and they married by means of an "imam nikâh"
(religious but not official) wedding ceremony.  A child name Y.E. was
(evidently) born from this union at a time when Ensari was 82 years old. (!)

Y.E., who is now a university student, had his lawyers Tuncay Akı and
Alparslan Aydoğan file a paternity suit on his behalf in Ankara family
court.  Based on this suit, Ensari's grave in Gölbaşı, Ankara, was opened
on 21 October 2022 and a DNA sample was taken from his remains.
The results showed no DNA link between Y.E. and Ensari.

However (!), Y.E.'s lawyers filed an objection, asserting that "four or five
leg bone parts should have been taken for the DNA report for a conclusive
report but only one was taken during the 'fethi kabir işlemi' (exhumation)."
The court accepted the objection.  Ensari's grave was opened once
again on Friday and DNA samples taken from his remains.

rope.  The family summoned the Gendarmerie and it was determined
from fingerprints that the body was that of Semih Sevim, who lived in

"Beat & Release": Cool Afghan Killer Stopped for Soup After Murders, in Ankara

Cool killer Yusuf, soup in one hand, gesturing with the other

In Ankara's Altındağ district, the bodies of five Afghans, all of them with
their throats cut, were found in a flat on 11 November 2022 but the killer
escaped.  Ankara police formed a "special team" to track down the
murderer and determined that he was Afghan Muhammed Omer Yusuf
(30).   Pictures of Yusuf at Ankara's Esenboğa Airport confirmed that
the killer had flown to Tehran the day after the murders.

The police "special team" tracked Yusuf to Herat in western Afghanistan,
made contact with officials there and Yusuf was arrested and jailed.
Police learned that the murders resulted from an argument between the
Afghans about Yusuf sending money to their families in Afghanistan, for
which Yusuf took a commission percentage.  The other Afghans gave
Yusuf 700,000 TL (about $37,000)  but when their relatives related that
they had not received the money the argument and the killings ensued.

Yusuf had first killed Esedullah Rahmi, who had rented the flat, by
hog-tying him and cutting his throat, putting Rahmi's body under a bed.
When Serferaz Sayaz, Habibullah Cora Han, Abdul Halim Ruzi Kul and
Abdurrahman Azizi came to the flat Yusuf stabbed all of them to death.

If this family didn't have bad luck, they'd have no luck at all.

A remarkable story has emerged from a divorce case and related
fatherhood claim in Ankara courts.  According to the files, Vedat Ö.
was living in a village in Çankırı province when, at 16 years of age,
he had a fight with his father and moved in with his uncle M.K.
While there, Vedat began to have an affair with M.K.'s wife S.K.  Then,
upon his return from military service, Vedat Ö. married M.K. and S.K.'s
older daughter F.Ö. (!)

The newlyweds moved to Ankara but Vedat Ö. and S.K. continued their
affair.  Meanwhile, F.Ö. gave birth to two children from Vedat Ö., who
came down with a muscle disease that prompted marital problems with
F.Ö.   In the course of the ensuing divorce case, the abovementioned
"dirty laundry" came to light.  It turned out that M.K.'s two youngest
children's father is, in fact, Vedat Ö. (!)

So, as a result, Vedat Ö. is both the father and brother-in-law of F.Ö.'s
two siblings.  M.K.'s two youngest children (!),  having learned
that Vedat Ö. is their father, have filed a paternity suit against him.

husband had a long affair with my mother and he turned out to be my
siblings' father." (!)

The divorce and paternity suits were filed in 2022 in Ankara and are
continuing, with DNA test results awaited.  When M.K. learned
about S.K.'s affair with Vedat Ö. he divorced her.
