In Diyarbakır's Sur district, G.G. (15) was taken to a hairdresser the day
before yesterday in anticipation of being married off to S.S. (24).
Subsequently, G.G. and S.S. came to the wedding hall in a bride's car.
However (!), as the happy couple entered the hall where the invited
guests were waiting police intervened to stop the ceremony.
Police put G.G. in a police car and took S.S. and four others into
custody. While G.G. was put in the care of the police's children's
office, S.S. and the others were processed at the police station. One
of those taken into custody with S.S. was G.G.'s mother M.G. who
asserted that her daughter was eager to be married, adding that "we
approved of the wedding and there was no compulsion involved."
The wedding invitation from the happy couple read: "We've decided
to be together in life no matter what happens. Your being here with
us on this never-to-be-repeated day gives us great happiness."
The invited guests remained in the hall for a while and then left
when they learned what had happened.
