In Mardin on 10 February, university student E.R.Y. (19)
boarded a minibus to go home after studying at her
school. Once the other passengers got off, diver H.P. (55)
asked E.R.Y. to sit in the seat behind him, saying that he
liked her looks and wanted to be her friend (!).
Despite the young girl's rejection of H.P.'s romantic
offer, he continued to verbally harass her, refusing to
stop his minibus. Finally, when E.R.Y. insisted, H.P.
let her off, upon which she reported H.P. to the police.
The court decided to fine H.P. in an amount equal to
135 days in jail. E.R.Y.'s father Ahmet Y. was satisfied
with the court's decision.
