A plethora.
English director Chloe Fairweather and her friend Sinead Kirwan have
made a documentary film about violence directed against women in
Turkey entitled 'Dying to Divorce'. The film will be England's
candidate for 'Best International Film' at the Oscars.
The inspiration for the movie, which began showing in England this
week, happened when Fairwether was in Turkey making another film
and met Arzu, who had been shot by her husband because she wanted
a divorce. Also in the documentary is the story of Kübra, a TV
presenter who can barely walk and talk now as the result of her
husband's violence toward her.
İpek Bozkurt, a lawyer for the 'We Will Stop Murders of Women
Platform' and one of the platform's representatives, Ayşen Ece Kavas,
also discuss the matter in the film. In conjunction with the UN's
'16-Day Activism Campaign' in the struggle against violence towards
women, the film opened in cinemas in England on 26 November.
A rarity.
