Fast, but not fast enough.
In Seyhan, Adana, the day before yesterday Lokman D. (33), who lives
on the 3rd floor of the 5-story apartment building spit on former national
track star Ahmet Pekyen (66) and his son Onur Pekyen from his balcony,
sparking an argument. (!)
The following morning, Lokman D. began to wait on his balcony for
Onur bey to head out for work. Ahmet bey went to the front of the
apartment building to ensure there would be no trouble, but Lokman D.
shot Ahmet bey dead with a hunting rifle from his balcony. Lokman D.
was taken into custody at his home. On the evening of the argument, he
had threatened the Pekyen family, screaming "I will kill you!"
Ahmet Pekyan was selected for the Turkish national track team in middle
school. He became the premier runner in Turkey and placed 6th in the
Balkan Championship competition. After the 1980 coup in Turkey, he
left sports behind him and in 1987 he was accused of participating in the
bombing of the Anavatan Party and taken into custody. Allegedly, as
the result of torture in jail, Ahmet Pekyen's spine was injured and
left 50% handicapped. In any case, he was absolved of guilt (!) and
served as the head of the Anatolian Peoples Association for a time.
