A branch of the U.S. Pepublican Party's 'Fake News' bureau.
Police in Istanbul got a tip about a gang preparing fake ID cards for
illegal migrants and found that on the fake ID cards the English word
'Republic' was misspelled as 'Pepublic'. (!)
After an investigation, police identified the gang as being comprised
of individuals from Turkmenistan and their office in the Aksaray
neighborhood was raided on 24 June, along with some other addresses,
with 6 people taken into custody. The raids resulted in the seizure of
all sorts of fake government documents and diplomatic stamps related
to residency in Turkey, as well as 16,450 counterfeit U.S. dollars and
17,000 TL (about $1,000).
In addition, machines and devices like computers and printers
for making the fake cards were seized. Two Turkmenistanis were
jailed but the other four were released on judicial supervision. (!)
The gang gave advice to their 'customers', such as "you need a high
school diploma to be able to easily get a job" and, of course, the gang
could provide such fake diplomas. The fake stamps and seals of foreign
consulates were used, as well, and university diplomas from '19 Mayıs
University' and 'Uşak University' were offered to make 'university
graduates'. The gang also produced fake 'visitor documents' to enable
their 'customers' to visit friends and relatives in prison. Prices for the
documents ranged from 1,000 to 5,000 Euros.
Suspects can now avail themselves of prison educational
resources...better late than never.
