(Hürriyet Newspaper, 10 March 2025)

Istanbul is soooo crowded. Need an alternative.

The Turkish Government's official newspaper of 7 March 2025
published a Presidential Decision to the effect that the "Spitsbergen
(Svalbard) Agreement" has gone into effect and since Turkey is a
party to the agreement, Turkish citizens and companies can own
property and reside in the Svalbard archipelago.  (!)

Quite a few tourists visit Svalbard Island, which is 750 kilometers
from the North Pole, each year.  The archipelago is part of Norway
and experiences 6 months of daylight and 6 months of darkness.
And while Norway is the owner parties to the 1920 agreement have
rights to work, reside and do research there.
