Annoying customer harassing lifeboat's lifesavers.
An annoyingly inquisitive customer having lunch at the Faik
Bey restaurant on the shore of Lake Uluabat in Bursa province
noticed the odd sight of an orange-colored ocean-going ship's
lifeboat resting there. The bow of the boat had these words
painted on: "MV Nicea Valetta".
How in the world would the lifeboat of an ocean-going ship
reach the shore of Lake Uluabat?! A quick Google search on
the name produced the mothership's story - the Turkish-owned
ship had been seized in Malta in May 2010 for debt problems
and its crew left there in Valetta to fend for themselves
(see links to story above).
As one fellow bailed out the accumulated rain water in the
vessel another guy showed up with a tractor to pull it onto
shore for the rehab to begin.
However (!), when the annoying customer inquired about
the lifeboat he learned from the restaurant owners that they
had brought the lifeboat from Aliağa in Izmir to Lake Uluabat
10 years ago, after the mothership had been "shipbreaked"
there for its iron and other salvageable parts. They knew
nothing of its backstory, though.
Now, ten years later, the lifeboat's owners had finally gotten
around to rehabbing the craft on the same day that the
annoying customer happened upon their lovely restaurant.
Chance is a fool's name for fate...
