Safiye Gokce Y. moved to Aydin two years ago from Adana when her
husband O.Y. started a job as an electrical engineer at a geothermal
energy plant in Aydin. Safiye hanim went to the local hospital for a
check-up and suggested to a doctor there that he let her invest his
money in Bitcoins, explaining that she is an "economist-broker"and
knows about such things.
In short order, Safiye hanim collected money from 40 people -
nurses, soldiers, courthouse workers, policemen - and paid them each
a dividend over the two years to gain their trust. To add to her
bona fides, Safiye hanim told them that her nephew worked at MIT
(Turkish National Intelligence Organization).
While the cat's at play, the mice give away...their money.
However (!), two months ago, Safiye hanim disappeared having
bilked her "clients" out of 30 million TL (about $5 million) in
exchange for supposedly 600 Bitcoins.
Recently, video has emerged of Safiye hanim enjoying herself at a
restaurant with a violinist playing "We're Waiting for You by the
Seaside" in back of her. Of note, in the video Safiye hanim wore a
"tesettur" (headcovering worn by pious Moslem women), evidently
to avoid being recognized, with a drink in her hand. (!)
