Five years to plan the wedding.
Osman S., who lives separately from his wife in Konya's Beyşehir district,
engaged his daughter C.S., who is in 8th grade (!), to Ali G. (28), 15 years
her senior. The engagement ceremony on 7 December was posted on
social media by attendees, prompting the Beyşehir Gendarmerie Command
and and the provincial directorate for family and social services to launch
an investigation.
Consequent to the investigation, C.S. was put in the custody of the state
authorities and settled into a dormitory. Meanwhile, the Gendarmerie
brought Osman S. and Ali G., along with other family members, in for
questioning. C.S. claimed that she was willing to get engaged, there was
no family pressure on her and that she loved Ali G. As for her father
Osman S., he explained that another daughter, aged 16, eloped with her
boyfriend so he did not want to repeat such an experience. He noted
that once C.S. reaches the age of maturity, a proper wedding will be
held. (!)
