She rightly feared the ass-backward "king".
In the Soğütlü neighborhood of Adana's Seyhan district, Muhammet G.
(57) and Fadime Korkusuz (whose surname means "fearless") got
divorced 6 years ago but they continued to live together (!). However,
on 27 October Fadime hanım went to the police station to get a
restraining order issued against Muhammet G. for inflicting physical
and psychological injury to her.
On 2 November at around noon, Muhammet G. and Fadime hanım
argued in the field where she was working as a farm laborer because
he claimed that she had cheated on him (!). Muhammet G. then
sent his son E.G. to the market to do some shopping while he set their
house on fire. The house was soon enveloped in flames, with Fadime
hanım locked inside. Meanwhile, Muhammet G. fled in his car.
Firefighters arrived and were able to contain the fire before it spread
to nearby homes. Fadime hanım was found in a bathroom seriously
injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. Police nabbed Muhammet
G., who has a police record of six other crimes, including "threats,
robbery and intentional wounding", in his car in Sarıçam district. He
had burns on his arms and was taken to a hospital.
In his statement to police, Muhammet G. said that his wife had set the
house on fire (!). In any case, after 36 days in the hospital, Fadime
hanım succumbed to her burn injuries and died. Muhammet G. remains
under treatment in the hospital.
