Hopeful would-be groom, family approach with bouquets...
In Istanbul's Beyoğlu district, fireworks set off in connection with
a "kız isteme" event (asking for a girl's hand in marriage) resulted
in a nearby building catching fire (!). Eight people in the burning
building were rescued by firefighters and 3 suspects were taken
into custody.
The fire broke out around eight-thirty at night on Mermer Street,
in the Çukur neighborhood. A procession of the prospective
groom and his family was followed by friends who set off the
fireworks as they all approached the intended bride's home.
However (!), the fireworks ignited a fire on the 3rd floor of a
building, stranding eight people, who were subsequently saved
by firefighters.
Mehmet Sıraç A., Eyüp A. and Enes A. were taken into custody
by police and jailed for setting off the fireworks.
