Çaycuma not listed yet...or ever?
A few incidents in just the past two months in Zonguldak's
Çaycuma district have sparked shock and suprise, especially
because Çaycuma is in the process of joining the "Cittaslow"
international list of (supposedly) "pleasant-living, slow-paced
cities". (!)
The night before last, ex-policeman (!) Okan Ö. (32) came to
a coffeehouse in Coburlar village with a hunting rifle and sprayed
gunfire all around, resulting in the wounding of owner Kasım
Özcan (59), along with customers Aydın Özbakış (37), Gökhan G.
(39) and Hüseyin G. (67).
Özcan and Özbakış died at a hospital. As for assailant Okan Ö.,
he fled the scene but later turned himself in at the Çaycuma
courthouse. He had left the police force due to psychological
problems and was ordered to stay away from his parents after
inflicting violence on them.
On 6 October and 20 October, 16-year-old girls G.N.Ü. and
B.T. gave birth to children in Çaycuma, and on 22 October the
body of a 17-year-old girl named Hasret Akkuzu was found
in a well in Çaycuma.
