Gentlemen diners in Batumi.
Metro Turism's owner Galip Öztürk fled Turkey after his life sentence
for ordering a murder was confirmed. Now, he and Derkan Başer,
wanted by Interpol as one of the leaders of a virtual betting gang, have
been located in Georgia, where the two fugitives have bought a
shopping center. They were seen in a photo taken at the restaurant
Başer runs in Batumi. (!)
Öztürk received a life jail sentence for having Kuvvet Köseoğlu killed
in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, in 1996. Başer, who was the right-hand man of
Veysel Şahin's, the ruler of a 5 billion Euro virtual betting ring, was
freed by a Bakırköy, Istanbul, court on 13 April 2018 but ordered
arrested four hours later by the same court. Nevertheless, he escaped
and after wandering in a number of countries, settled down in Georgia.
Last week, in response to the Interpol warrant, Georgian authorities
took Başer into custody but released him within a few hours. (!)
Başer and Öztürk are partners in a Batumi shopping center and run a
virtual betting ring from Georgia that local Turks there are well aware
of. The latest news is that the two Turkish fugitives have bought a
hotel in Batumi, where they live a life of luxury - Başer drives a Bentley
and runs his "ocakbaşı"-concept (grilled meat) restaurant. Of course,
Öztürk is a frequent guest at the restaurant, where friends coming from
Turkey are wined and dined.
Öztürk was convicted in 2012 of forcing someone to sign a promissory
note but he was in and out of prison in no time. With regard to the1996
killing, on 28 September that year Kuvvet Köseoğlu was murdered in a
house where he was hiding out in Beyoğlu. Öztürk was indicted for
ordering the hit but the trial dragged on. When the court finally decided
in 2018 to sentence Öztürk to life, he fled Turkey.
