Big fan of 7/24 police protection.
In the middle of July, Maks Gerşon, who owns a paper factory in
Esenyurt, Istanbul, went to the police asking for protection against
a gang he said was threatening him. After some period of time, Gerşon
returned to the police station to report that his car had been shot at in an
assassination attempt against him.
Police looked at video from the scene of the alleged assassination
attempt and saw that one person had fired one shot at the right back
window of Gerşon's car. Police then determined the identities of two
people involved and took İsmail G. and Sait Ç. into custody at a lot
belonging to the construction company they work for.
The two suspects gave police conflicting stories and it turned out that
their employer's construction firm has a relationship with Gerşon. This
prompted police to call in Gerşon once again and faced with the
suspects' admissions under cross-examination, Gerşon admitted that he
had hired them to stage the "hit" so he could convince the police to give
him protection.
After court processing, İsmail G. was released and Gerşon and Sait Ç.
were freed under judicial supervision and barred from leaving Turkey.
