where's the monstrous threshold? click here for a
TNT report where 44 stabs didn't break the barrier.
He'll never get his chance to be a monster.
Kaan Erol was serving at the Metin Sabancı Bone Diseases Training
and Research Hospital at Baltalimanı, Istanbul when he was stabbed
75 times (!) by fellow doctor Yavuz Sümter. However, the public
prosecutor determined that although Sümter did indeed murder Erol,
he did not do so "with monstrous intent or to inflict torment". (!!)
At the court hearing of the case, Sümter and Erol's family attended
as the prosecutor explained that the 75 stabs did not constitute
"intentional murder with monstrous intent or to inflict torment."
Nevertheless, the prosecutor asked for a life sentence for Sümter.
(somehow, Sümter's sentence would be worse if he were to be
convicted of the "monstrous" charge or perhaps he would lose any
chance of parole.)
