The photographs given to the press concerning the semi-finals of the
"34th Best Model Turkey" competition have caused a sensation on
social media. In particular, the poses of the male competitors kneeling
in the front has sparked a negative reaction.
Erkan Özerman, the head of "Best Model" explained that the competitors
were merely posing for a memento photo, rather than for the contest's
jury. He added that "the eliminations had ended and they all wanted a
memento photo. People who saw the photo complained that they were
being shown to the jury like slaves at a slave market. I know "asparagas"
(fake news) when I see it, I've been in this business for 63 years."
The "Best Model Organization Committee" issued the following statement:
"The suggestion has been made that the competitors were forced to appear
this way before the jury, but it was just a memento photo. This fake news
has dismayed both us and the young competitors."
Everything old is new again.
