The sound of silence.
In Güngören, Istanbul, the night before last, Sinan Çalışkanel (38) and
his friend were driving along in a car playing music loudly.
Motorcyclist Vedat G. took exception to this noise and an argument
ensued. Calışkanel got out of his car and began fighting with Vedat G.,
who stabbed Çalışkanel to death.
Çalışkanel's friend shot Vedat G. who fled the scene and went to a
hospital for treatment. Police nabbed Vedat G. at the hospital and it
turned out he has a long police record. Çalışkanel, the father of two
children, was laid to rest the day after the incident.

Look straight ahead.
In Eskişehir, two groups of workers at factories in an industrial park
got into a "yan bakma" (giving someone a dirty look) fight while
waiting for a bus on the night of 3 August. In the course of the fight,
Ahmet T. (23) stabbed Ali Aksu to death and fled.
Police reviewed 50 hours of video footage to identify factory workers
Ahmet T., A.K., H.U., M.K., B.U., M.S., B.S., K.Ç. and S.Ç. Nine of
them were taken into custody and jailed, including Ahmet T. Suspects
K.Ç., M.S., B.U., and A.K. were released on judicial supervision and
the other four were released outright after giving statements.

In happier days...before the ambulance was summoned.
After the big earthquake last February, Ümit Mutlu Akpınar (24)
and his wife Büşra (26) moved from Kahramanmaraş to Denizli,
where Ümit bey began to work in the construction sector. However,
yesterday an argument erupted between the couple and Ümit bey
grabbed a knife from the kitchen (!) and stabbed his wife to death.
Meanwhile, Büşra hanım's son Macit Gül (4) from a previous marriage
ran to the balcony only to be pursued by Ümit bey, who stabbed the
boy to death, too. Ümit bey was arrested and told police the he merely
waved the kitchen knife around without anyone in particular in mind
as a target. (!)

In happier days...if there really were any.
In Uşak, at 3 o'clock in the morning the night before last, Emrah Aka
(42), who sells antique rugs, and his wife Emine Aka (40) got into an
argument. Emine hanım grabbed a kitchen knife (!) and stabbed her
husband of 7 months to death. Emine hanım was arrested and jailed.
She explained in her statement to police that the argument was
prompted by her jealousy of her husband.
