The name must have some relationship to the smell.
In Gaziantep, police got a tip about a rented car transporting illegal drugs,
but when they ordered the driver to stop he fled instead. While escaping,
the driver threw two bags from the car, from which 19.650 kilograms of
narcotics were recovered. Two suspects were quickly arrested and it
turned out that they are both active-duty policemen in Diyarbakır (!).
The incident occurred last Friday when police in Gaziantep tried to stop
a rented car with Istanbul license plates. The two bags of narcotics
the suspects threw from the car contained 20 packets of a drug called
"skunk" (!). The suspects were identified as M.Y. and V.K., both of
them currently assigned to the Diyarbakır police force, and jailed.
