"I'm melting!!!"
In Beylikdüzü, Istanbul, Ümit Yaşar Parlak wanted to operate a café
at the ICESTANBUL (!) ice skating rink run by Ayfer and İsmail
Ahmet Özbal. When this didn't happen Parlak wanted the Özbal's
to return the money he'd spent on preparing his café. The Özbal's
refused.
So, on 14 April 2020, Parlak came to the ice skating rink with a can
of gasoline and a "pumpalı tüfek" (pump-action rifle). He broke a
glass window to gain entry and was confronted by Ahmet bey, whom
he fired on. Ahmet bey wasn't hit but, undeterred, Parlak proceeded to
spread the gasoline around the facility and lit it. (!)
"What? Just turn it into a Turkish bath."
Parlak was arrested for "attempted murder", "breaking and entering",
"property damage" and "endangering public safety". He faces a jail
term of up to 38 years. At the first hearing held at Bakırköy 9th
Serious Crimes Court, Parlak explained that "the complainants owe
me about 600,000 TL (about $50,000). When they didn't pay me I
decided to burn the place."
A tearful Ayfer hanım lamented that "he lit the fire while we were
inside the facility. He has ruined us. I don't want him to ever see the
light of day again!"
