Sand for brains.
The person who stole sand from the beach at Italyan Bay, a nature-
protected area along the coast of the Gulf of Saros in Edirne province,
turned out to be Ali Balaban, the 'muhtar' (village chief) of nearby
Mecidiye village.(!)
Balaban used 9 truckloads of the sand for his 'muhtar' building in
the village and for a hotel he's building. He was taken into custody
and released, but the investigation is continuing. In his own defense
Balaban explained that "I didn't know it was forbidden to take sand
from there. If I had known I wouldn't have." (!)
