In Adana, traffic police wrote a ticket for a too-loud exhaust pipe sound
but when the car's owner objected, police had him listen to the exhaust
pipe sound level of two of their police vehicles for comparison's sake.
The incident occurred in Çukurova district. Police received a
complaint about the excessive exhaust pipe noise coming from a car
with foreign license plates on Turgut Özal Boulevard. When police
stopped the car they fined driver Furkan C. for having no license and
the car's owner and passenger Gökhan Kaan A. for letting Furkan C.
drive the car without a license - 2,473 TL each (about $350 each).
Police also aimed to fine Gökhan Kaan A. for the exhaust pipe
noise but he insisted it was normal. So police had Gökhan Kaan A.
listen to the noise level of two police cars to convince him. In the
end, police took the car to Gökhan Kaan A.'s house and told him
he had to have the exhaust pipe replaced within a week.
All noise is relative.
