TNT Smoke & Mirrors Edition: Fake Police Station in Istanbul (mid-1950s)/PART III

Tarihten Anekdotlar: Şubat 2017

They looked over the building we're sitting in and decided to rent it.
They chose this neighborhood because they'd previously worked at the
nearby Sirkeci Police HQS and they knew a lot of people in the area.
So they had a "Küçükpazar Karakolu" sign made and hung it on the
building.  For furnishings, these three fellows bought everything a
proper police station should have, from tables to chairs to typewriters
to files, paper, stamps, you name it, and opened Turkey's - probably
the world's - first private police station.

As soon as they opened their police station, they began to shakedown
the local merchants, as they had always done when they were still
working as real policemen.  At that time, the chief of the Sirkeci Police
HQS changed so the new chief didn't know one police station from
the other, let alone whether there was a genuine Küçükpazar Karakolu
or not.

The three charlatans ran their enterprise like a regular police station and
even went to pay a visit to the new chief, bearing a box of chocolates.
During the visit, they complained to the chief about their need for more
staff!  In response, the chief said "I've got plenty of staff.  I'll assign a
few of them to you."  Three regular policemen then went to work at the
Küçükpazar Karakolu.   Everything that ought to happen at a genuine
police station happened here, from suspects being taken to court, to
documents being exchanged and filed, to criminals being apprehended.

İstanbul'dan Komik Bir Sahte Karakol Hikayesi KÜÇÜKPAZAR Karakolu ...

The three charlatans even took leave, but, at most, only two of them
at any one time.  However, once when two of them were away on
leave a relative of the remaining partner died so he had to go to his
hometown for a few days to attend the funeral.  At this same time,
a fellow was sent from the Sirkeci Police HQS for temporary duty
to Küçükpazar Karakolu.  This fellow had previously been in charge
of distributing coal to all of Istanbul's police stations and, of course,
he knew all their names by heart.

So when this fellow was sent to 'Küçükpazar Karakolu' he was
perplexed because he'd never heard of it.  Winter was approaching
and yet no coal had been delivered to Küçükpazar Karakolu so he
went to see his old buddies in the coal distribution office:

A: "Hey fellows, how come you haven't sent any coal to our police
station?"

B: "Where's your police station?"

A: "Küçükpazar Karakolu"

B: "Where's that?"

A: "In Unkapanı."

B: "We don't know anything about such a police station."

A: "Come on! That's the place where I work!"

The coal distribution fellows took out a list of all of Istanbul's police
stations but couldn't find 'Küçükpazar Karakolu'.  Nevertheless, they
couldn't leave their buddy and his building without coal so then sent
a load there.
