"All The News That Fits My Ego"
During last year's mayoral election in Istanbul, AKP (ruling party)
point man Ali İhsan Yavuz frantically but fruitlessly searched for
voting improprieties by the winning CHP (opposition party) candidate.
In his losing cause, Yavuz famously said "even if nothing happened,
something happened!" (!)
Yavuz, who is an AKP parliamentarian from Sakarya (Adapazarı)
province, also declared that "the media doesn't publish good news!"
So, in response, the local Adapazarı Akşam Gazetesi (Adapazarı
Evening Newspaper) has published a special edition about Yavuz's
virtues and accomplishments, with front-page headlines like:
"Thank heavens for you!"
"You're Always Modest!"
"Forward-looking Parliamentarian!"
"Great Sacrifice to Serve!"
"Thanks to Yavuz, My Life Has Changed!"
What a guy!...read all about it.
One of the items in the "paper" reads as follows:
"The corridors are awash with talk that USA President Donald
Trump has invited Yavuz to come to America to give a seminar
to congressmen about 'how to be successful'."
Yet another:
"The people of Sakarya, who have a special place in their hearts
for Yavuz, will remember him when his term ends as a 'legendary
representative'.
Still yet another:
"When the 2.5 million TL (about $350,000) a businessman had
given to Sakaryaspor football team went missing, despite
everyone's insistence Yavuz would not reveal either the giver
or the taker. This calls to mind Mevlana's words 'cover the faults
of others like the darkness of night.'"
