Glad to have retired from the world's oldest profession.
In Istanbul, the Morals Bureau police got a tip about a gang that has been
luring women from abroad and making them engage in prostitution.
After three months of technical and physical surveillance, police
determined that the gang was operating in Fatih, Bayrampaşa, Esenler,
Zeytinburnu, Küçükçekmece, Sultangazi and Arnavutköy districts of the
city.
On 13 March an operation was conducted at 19 addresses in these
districts and 11 gang members were taken into custody. Ten foreign
women being "employed" by the gang were freed by police. A "customer"
was also brought to the police station to give a statement. In related
searches, the police found 33 telephones, a tally sheet, 32,920 TL,
2,190 Euros and $1,761. After questioning at the police station, ten of
those taken into custody were jailed and the other was freed on judicial
supervision.
