Talk about your "fake news"!
The founding ceremony for the construction of the Devrez Kıslaryolu
Dam in Çankırı province was held on 17 December 2017. Then-
Minister of Forestry and Water Works Veysel Eroğlu, Çankırı
Governor Hamdi Bilge Aktaş and AKP (ruling party) members of
Parliament attended the ceremony.
It was announced that the dam would cost 450 million TL and
provide water for a 156,000 'dekar' (1 dekar = 1,000 square meters)
area. In his remarks at the ceremony, Eroğlu said "The Devrez Dam
has been long-awaited by Çankırı. It will have the capacity to store
103 million square meters of water."
Left high and dry.
However (!), CHP (opposition party) parliamentarians Gökan Zeybek,
İsmet Tokdemir, Türabi Kayan and Hasan Baltacı recently went to
see the dam but found nothing but empty land. Zeybek noted that
"we looked for the dam but couldn't find it. Nobody knows what
happened to it." (!)
Explaining further, Zeybek said that "it was announced that the dam's
cornerstone was laid in 2017 at Köprülü in Kurşunlu district. We
went there with our (CHP) provincial chief, crossed over land and
streams, climbed the hills and came to a flat area where rainwater
had formed canals. But we found no sign of any cornerstone, no
construction shanty, machinery - nothing. Just empty land and
some debris from rocks that were blown up. We ran into shepherds
and talked to the former mayor and the villagers but no one knew
what happened to the dam."
