                                                Ouch.

Orhan Korkmaz (49), who used to work as a produce middleman at a
fruit and vegetable market in Ankara, was divorced by his wife of 16
years in 2015 when his business situation went sour.  The court ordered
Korkmaz to pay his ex-wife 500 TL per month in alimony, but when he
could not he was put in jail for three months 15 times in six years. (!)

Korkmaz now has an 80,000 TL alimony debt but since he's spent so
much time in jail he hasn't been able to work or to file a suit to have
the alimony reduced or eliminated.

Korkmaz and D.T. (47) were married by means of a go-between in 1993
but when his business went bad in 2013, D.T. left him, taking their
young daughter with her.  A two-year court battle ended in 2015 with
Korkmaz being ordered to pay D.T. 500 TL per month in alimony.  But
he couldn't pay and went to jail for three months as a penalty - this
3-month jailing has now happened 15 times in six years. (!)

Currently, Kormaz is out of jail because of the COVID pandemic and
living with his 24-year-old son.  He lamented that "after getting out of
jail I'll be put back in a month from now.  I can't get a job because an
employer doesn't want someone who'll be going to jail every few
months."

                               Home away from home.
