"Where have you been all my life??!!"
Alev Y. owns a firm in Bodrum district of Muğla province that rents
properties and builds homes. Alev hanım, whose self-inflicted
nickname is "Superstar", hoodwinked investors by promising to share
as much as 35% of the income of homes they put up for rent.
Enthusiastic investors joined in but soon their payments stopped and
no one answered their frantic phone calls.
It turned out that Alev hanım had bamboozled 800 people out of 80
million TL (about $5.4 million). She and five other people with ties
to her firm were taken into custody. Alev hanım was living a life of
luxury with her ill-gotten gains, even buying 3 camels (!) for 2 million
TL. But now her bank accounts have been blocked and her camels
impounded.
Her role model is Catherine the Great.
