(Milliyet newspaper, 9 April 2022)

He may not have COVID but he's a very sick man.

Convicts released from prison conditionally or because of COVID-19
continue to make others pay the price of their freedom.  In just the past
two years, 12 women and 3 children have been murdered by men let
out of jail provisionally.

The latest incident occurred in Elazığ, where Fırat Alan was released
from prison because of the pandemic and on 4 April he killed his
mother-in-law Zarife Doğan and his sister-in-law Gülay Doğan.  The
ten-year-old son of another sister-in-law was also seriously wounded
by Alan, who has a long record of criminal activity.  In 2002 he was
jailed for a murder and released in 2014. Subsequently, in 2018, he
killed a pedestrian while driving drunk.

Doğan family members lamented to Milliyet that "this is not this man's
first murder.  He has continually threatened his ex-wife Cemile with
death even though they divorced 15 years ago (!).  He came to kill
Cemile again this time but she wasn't at home so he killed her mother
and sister, wounding a 10-year-old boy too."

"After killing them he went looking for Cemile.  If he was still in
jail these people would be alive.  He killed someone while driving
drunk.  He also stormed a hospital armed with a gun. He was released
because of the pandemic and came to kill them.  Is he the only one
responsible for these murders?! What about those who set him free?!"
