When guns are too handy...
On 29 May in Yüreğir, Adana, at about 6 o'clock in the evening truck
driver Murat Kebude (37) took his two daughters from his ex-wife
S.T., whom he divorced in 2023, and after buying some cake went to
his home. A little while later Kebude's former sister-in-law Deniz Tuncel
(21) and her boyfriend Şahan Uğurlu (30) came to the house.
An argument erupted, prompting Kebude to shoot Uğurlu in the chest
with his "pompalı tüfenk" (pump-action rifle). As Kebude was
absconding with his two daughters he encountered Deniz hanım on
the staircase and shot her in the chest too. (!)
Kebude then drove to Sarıçam, where his family lives. He was taken into
custody by police there and jailed. Uğurlu died and Deniz hanım remains
in intensive care.
As for the argument that sparked the mayhem, when Kebude prevented
his daughters from staying with Deniz hanım, as they wanted, her
boyfriend Uğurlu chastised Kebude, saying "who are you to behave
badly toward my girlfriend??!!" That was all it took for Kebude to grab
his pump-action rifle and start shooting.
