"Why wasn't I invited?!"
The Istanbul Governor has begun an investigation into a 'coronavirus
party' held at a house in Büyükçekmece, with scenes shared on social
media. According to a statement from the governor's office:
"Charges have been filed against suspects M.S. and M.E.Ç., who
organized the party, 'DJ' T.A., participants Y.Ü., E.K., C.D., Ö.A.Y.,
Ö.Ö., S.U. and Y.K, along with apartment manager İ.Y., for 'behaving
contrary to measures related to contagious diseases', in accordance
with Public Health Law 1593. The site of the party on Zencefil Street
in the Bahçelievler neighborhood of Büyükçekmece district, has been
sealed. Efforts are underway to identify other party participants."
Alleged party organizer M.E.Ç.'s lawyer Abdullah Burak Akça told
reporters that scenes from the party posted on social media drew
negative reactions from the public and prompted authorities to take
statements from 15 participants, 10 of whom were subsequently
released from police custody. Akça said that his client M.E.Ç. and
the others, however, have been taken to a hospital for screening.

In Edremit district of Balıkesir province, 16 people caught gambling at
a wedding hall that had been closed because of the coronavirus
outbreak have been fined a total of 70,000 TL (about $1,200).
Wedding hall operator F.A. (!) has been charged with establishing a
gambling venue. Each of the 16 suspects caught gambling at the
site were fined 4,375, under two relevant laws, for a total fine of
about 70,000 TL.
