He was in a bad mood cuz his tricycle broke down.
In Bakırköy, Istanbul, Meral Ahmetoğlu (79) was staying at home, in
accordance with the coronavirus rules that instruct those over 65 not
to venture outside. Consequently, Meral hanım was getting her
groceries delivered from the neighborhood market.
However (!), on 9 April when Meral hanım's daughter came to her
home she found her mother dead on the floor. Subsequently, police
determined that Meral hanım had been strangled. Her cellphone
was missing, as well.
According to a police investigation, the last person to come to
Meral hanım's home had been grocery delivery boy Recep Yaz and
he was taken into custody on Saturday, 18 April. In his statement,
Yaz explained that "She owed me 8 lira (a little more than one dollar)
from the time before. When I brought her the groceries this time I
asked her for the 8 liras but she wouldn't give me the money. I got
angry and attacked her, using my shoelace to strangle her. I took her
cellphone to settle the debt." (!)
Police also picked up 3 people who bought Meral hanım's cellphone
from Yaz, who was taken to jail.
