Saved!
Istanbul Deniz Otobüsü (IDO passenger-car ferry) Captain Hasan Algam
noticed a stranded sailor in the Sea of Marmara during his trip from
Bandırma to Yenikapı on 14 August. Algam and his crew approached
the stranded boat and sailor, taking Hasan B., who claimed to be adrift
at sea for 4 days and 3 nights, onboard the ferry.
However (!), Hamza Coşkun caught the evening news and saw that it
was his stolen boat that Hasan B. was rescued from. Coşkun filed a
complaint and police tracked down Hasan B. in Darıca district of
Kocaeli province. Hasan B. claimed that his friend had stolen the boat
and swam to safety, leaving Hasan B. (evidently a non-swimmer) to
drift in the Sea of Marmara.
Unsaved!
It turns out that Hasan B. served time in Germany for murder (!) and
was being sought in Turkey on two theft charges. He was taken to jail.
