Funda Demirci (48) and Mustafa Çapar (50) married
24 years ago. The couple had 3 children together. Funda
hanım graduated from university with a degree to teach
chemistry, which she did for 7 years before switching to
the private sector for 10 years.
Seven years ago Funda hanım began to write novels,
plays and theater scripts, with a focus on tension, fear
and psychology (!). Two years ago Funda hanım and
Mustafa bey, a financial advisor, divorced.
The couple's children went to live with their father in
the Etiler neighborhood of Istanbul. On the evening of
28 September 2023, Funda hanım went to visit her
estranged family. After the children went to bed, the
couple began to argue, and at about midnight, Funda
hanım grabbed a bread knife, cutting Mustafa bey's
throat with it.
Mustafa bey died at the scene and Funda hanım was
arrested. At her trial, Funda hanım "explained" that "I
didn't do anything, but there was lots of violence." (!)
Nevertheless, the court sentenced Funda hanım to life
in prison, with no sentence reduction whatsoever.
Funda hanım contemplating her next novel.
She's only 48, so plenty of time to write in jail -
no "deadline".
