Sacrificial lambs.
The tragic incident occurred in the District Chief's office building
in Tercan, Erzincan province, on the floor where the district's
'Müftülük' (official expounder of Muhammedan law) is situated.
Fatih Aslan, a worker at the Müftülük, said to have psychological
problems (!), requested leave in conjunction with the upcoming
'Kurban Bayramı' (Feast of Sacrifice) from acting Müfti Ersin Kan.
Aslan's leave request was denied so yesterday he came to the
Müftülük with a gun and first killed Kan. Next, Aslan entered the
meeting room and killed data preparer Rasim Kılıç and İmams Harun
Yakup Günday and Muhammed Küçükyıldız. Aslan then committed
suicide by shooting himself in the head.
Tercan district is in easternmost Erzincan province.
