While awaiting ATC clearance for take-off.

In Istanbul in recent days there has been increased chatter between
pilots and ATCs because as the end of August approaches storks
have started to migrate to warmer climates.  For example, yesterday
a pilot informed ATC that "there is a dense flock of storks at 1500-
1800 feet ( 450-640 meters).  Can you adjust traffic?"

The stork flocks can change direction instantly, increasing the danger
for aircraft, especially when the birds hit the plane's radar dome in
the front.  The 6-kilogram bird hitting a plane at 300 kph is equal to
a 550-kilogram weight.  In one such incident in 2015, a Singapore
Airlines Boeing 777 airliner took off from Atatürk Airport and
flew into a flock of storks, necessitating the plane's return to Atatürk.
