Ready, aim, fire!
Murat Toptaş, a student in the engineering department of İnönü
University in Malatya has invented a "bomb" to extinguish forest
and pipeline fires (!). Toptaş's "bomb" was prepared with support
from the 7th Main Jet Base Command in Akçadağ district and the
Regional Forest Directorate.
Some people think there are better ways to fight forest fires.
The "bomb" contains gas (like a fire extinguisher) and can be
dropped on a fire by an F-4, F-16, Sikorsky helicopter or an
unmanned drone. It weighs 180 kilograms and explodes at a
designated height above the fire, cuts off the air around the fire
and puts out the flames. One "bomb" can extinguish a fire in a
1,050-square meter area. It could be exported to more than 100
countries.
