Onlar da itirafçı oldu
After their ice cream stand went bust, they took the wrong path.

A week before their trial was set to begin, the Kingston brothers, who
bilked the USA out of $511 million and then fled to Turkey, have
confessed to their crimes.  Jacob and Isaiah Kingston, Mormons from
the state of Utah, had their lawyers file their confessions in court in
Salt Lake City in order to get reduced sentences.

The brothers explained in their 22-page affidavit to Judge Jill B.
Parrish how they duped the U.S. Treasury with fake documents.
They also confessed to having deposited millions of dollars in
Turkish banks and to having purchased companies and property in
Turkey, along with investing millions of dollars in the "Mega
Varlık" fund.

The Kingstons claimed that U.S. businessman Lev Aslan Dermen,
who is also a suspect in the case and whom the brothers met in 2011,
planned all the illegal activities and that they did everything at
Dermen's direction, including establishing  SBK Holding USA,
which they used to launder money.  The Kingstons submitted to the
court a list of nearly 200 companies, accounts, vehicles, real estate
and other property that they either own or partially own.

Of the $511 million the brothers defrauded the U.S. Treasury out of,
at least $100 million was transferred to Turkey for laundering, after
which it was sent back to the USA.  The properties in Turkey were
listed as follows:

Set-App Technologies in Kuruçeşme, Istanbul - 5 properties;
Komak Isı Yalıtım (insulation) Systems
Doğa Doğan
Mega Varlık Yönetim AŞ
SBK Holding Turkey

With regard to the mysterious Lev Aslan Dermen, he petitioned
the court three days ago to be tried separately from the Kingstons
but this request was rejected.  The owner of SBK Holding Turkey,
Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, is not a suspect and is helping the
investigation.  Prosecutor Richard M. Rowling stated that there is
currently no plan to issue a new indictment that would declare
Korkmaz or SBK Holding Turkey as defendants, although Korkmaz
wrote about this possibility in a letter to lawyer Mark Srere on 15
May 2019.  As of now, Korkmaz is listed as a knowledgeable witness
in the case.

The Kingston brothers had a ship from the U.S. east coast loaded
with biodiesel fuel but the fuel was transferred to another ship prior
to entering the Panama Canal.  When the ship emerged from the
canal and docked in Los Angeles its declared cargo was "sunflower
oil".  The brothers then made it appear that the sunflower oil had
been processed into biodiesel and took $1 per gallon for themselves.
