"Maybe I shudda just paid the check in the first place."
On the night of 13 September, Metin Özcan (38) and some friends
went to a nightclub in the Karaman neighborhood of Bursa city's
Osmangazi district. Considering the check to be excessive, Özcan,
who was inebriated, got into an argument with the waiters, pulled
out a gun and shot up the place.
Later, Özcan decided that he better make up with the nightclub
owner because of the damage he'd caused so Özcan sought help
from İhsan Y. and Emrah K., whom he'd met through a friend, to
act as intermediaries with the nightclub owner.
Subsequently, İhsan Y. said that he had talked with the owner, who
was demanding 25,000 TL (about $3,000) from Özcan. Again,
Özcan found this amount to be excessive so he talked with the
owner himself, who threatened Özcan. In addition, he realized that
İhsan Y. was trying to hoodwink him so Özcan refused to pay.

Hearing this, an enraged İhsan Y. declared to Özcan that "I have
a reputation in this world! I won't let anyone talk bad about me!
Without me, you won't be able to make a deal with the owner!"
On 17 September, the nightclub owner came to Özcan's workplace
and smashed the windows with a baseball bat, trashing the interior,
as well. At this point, Özcan realized that he better rent another
car to avoid the owner and İhsan Y. finding him in his own car.
Özcan took the rental car - plate nr. 34 CCE 883 (registered in
Istanbul) - to a car wash but, nevertheless, he was attacked there
by Emrah K., who had followed him. Ihsan Y. showed up soon
after and the two dragged Özcan into a car, beat him and then threw
him out of the speeding vehicle, causing Özcan to get hit by an
oncoming vehicle. (!)
Özcan was taken to a hospital with multiple broken bones and he
remains in intensive care. Police are endeavoring to track down
Ihsan Y., Emrah K. and other suspects. Özcan's wife Özlem Özcan
arrived at the police station and lamented that "I'm very distraught!
I want them punished!"
