Killer Chops Down the Family Tree, Branch by Branch

Seems to have a gift for execution. Coulda been a hit-man.

16 years ago, Şinasi Gürkan killed two brothers because of a money
dispute.  Six months ago he was released from prison.  In 2017 his
ex-wife Nadime Tigis was strangled with a scarf by her boyfriend
Ömer Güneşsu.  Last night at about 9.30 the sound of gunfire came
from the home in the Sultaniye neighborhood of Esenyurt, Istanbul,
where Gürkan lives.

Gürkan (54) shot dead his son Göksal Gürkan (21), who had come
home on leave from his military duty, and his other son, Gökmen
Gürkan (16), a high school student.  Gürkan then went to the home of
his brother Mühendis Gürkaan (45) on Bereket Street in the Tahtakale
neighborhood of Avcılar, broke a window to get in and killed his
brother. 

Next, Gürkan went to the home of his former brother-in-law Alihan
Tiz (55) in the Şahintepe neighborhood of Başakşehir and said to
him "my sons are missing, let's go look for them."  Tiz and his son
Erdal Tiz, the father of 4 children, got in the car with Gürkan, who
sat in the back seat. Gürkan then shot both of them, with Erdal dying
and Alihan left seriously injured.

Police captured Gürkan at a house on Güldoğan Street in the Gülbahar
district of Şişli.  He told police that "after I went to prison my wife
was killed. They didn't look after her so I punished them.  They held
me responsible for the incidents of 16 years ago so there was bad
blood between us since that time and it continued after I got out of
prison.  That's why I killed them.  I was going to hide out and go to
the funerals to kill the rest of them.  Then I was going to kill myself."

A real estate agent and a relative whom Gürkan called and threatened
to kill took refuge at a police station.  Police took the taxi driver who
took Gürkan to Şişli, the two people who rented the flat there and his
brother Olcay Gürkan, who lives in Başakşehir, into custody.  Gürkan
had told his son Gökmen that he would kill all the relatives and
Gökmen has told his school friends that "my father said that the people
he's after won't be alive next week" but no one took him seriously.
