Idiots arrested, gold recovered but Veysey Bey didn't
live to see it :(
On the evening of 25 February, Veysel Akkurt (63) returned with his
wife to their home in Yenişehir, Diyarbakır, and he saw some individuals
carrying a bag with his gold and cash in it. As Akkurt tried to stop them
he was pushed down a staircase and hit his head on the concrete floor.
He passed away in a hospital on 1 March.
Police investigated and found that the lock on the door to Akkurt's flat
had been "broken" - but police determined that, actually, the lock had
been broken on purpose to hide the fact that a key was used to open the
door in the first place. (!)
Investigating further, police interviewed family members and noticed
that Akkurt's granddaughter H.A. was acting suspiciously. It turned out
that H.A. and her boyfriend S.E. had planned the robbery to steal Akkurt's
more than 1 million TL (about $31,000) in gold and his cash. H.A. made
a copy of the key and when Akkurt left she alerted S.E. Police arrested
H.A., S.E. and five others in connection with the incident and they all
confessed, even telling police where they had buried the loot.
