Ouch.
In Bakırköy, Istanbul, yesterday evening at about six-forty five a TIR
(tractor trailer) driven by Mehmet F. struck the top of a bridge at the
Yeşilyurt Air War College intersection and fell on top of an automobile.
Passers-by tried to unload the trailer's contents in an effort to lighten
it. However, the four people in the car, one a child, all lost their lives.
Mehmet F. was taken into custody by police. The victims were
identified as Recep Aytekin, his mother Güler Rukiye Aytekin, his wife
Sultan Aytekin and his daughter Merve Aytekin. The family was en
route to the Istanbul Municipal Social Facility at Florya for the evening
"iftar" (dinner after sunset during Ramazan) meal.
It turned out that the TIR (license plate 34 ER 260) had hit the
same bridge in 2019. (!)
