"How's the weather down there?" says the King.
The enormously wealthy king of one of the world's poorest countries,
Esvatini (formerly Swaziland), attracted quite a bit of attention at the
Antalya Diplomatic Forum, held at Belek yesterday. King Mswati III,
who has 15 wives and 36 children (!), was seen getting briefed by
his diplomats, who knelt before him (!!).
The King is known for his luxurious lifestyle, like having American
rap star Erykah Badu perform at his 46th birthday party. His annual
salary is $50 million, yet 65% of his country's residents earn less than
$1.25 per day. The King owns sugar refineries, whiskey factories
and a hotel chain. He also has 62 Maybach luxury automobiles.
There are no political parties in Esvatini and the King appoints the
cabinet and judicial officials. The country has one of the worst
proportions of HIV sufferers in the world.
