"And our love will be a funeral pyre..."
On 6 March, Mustafa Yıldır (41), a policeman in the Mersin police
department (!), met with his second ex-wife, Mervegül Bayer (31), who
was divorced from Yıldır a year ago, and shot her in the head with a
revolver before killing himself with the same gun.
Go, yes, but don't take anyone with you.
The evening before last, Mervegül hanım's bereaved mother Hatice Kurt
burned her daughter's wedding dress in the street. Hatice hanım had
this advice for young girls:
"Girls, this is Mervegül's funeral shroud! Her shroud! Girls, everthing
began with this dress and now it comes to an end with this same dress.
Why am I doing this? As a lesson to you all. You may think over and
over again 'why did Aunt Hatice' burn the wedding dress?!' Well,
think about getting married over and over again. Think hard girls and
don't let anyone crush you, find help somewhere. This is Mervegül's
message: 'put my wedding dress out, gather my friends and burn it to
the last thread. Everything began with this dress.' Let this wedding
dress be a message for you. Whether good or bad, a person does not
change. Don't forget this."
