"Forget the fuss, remember the bus" - huh?
In Mersin on 15 December, a school principal and his teenage son
viciously beat a handicapped elderly couple on a city bus (!). Images
of the incident have now come out.
Ramazan Polat (77), who has a heart pacemaker, paralysis in the right
side of his body and kidney problems, and his wife Hamdiye (71) were
riding in a bus en route to Mersin City Hospital in Toroslar district when
an argument occurred between the couple and school principal İsmet
Turan and his son A.O.T. (17), who were also on the bus, because the
father and son were sitting in seats reserved for the elderly, pregnant
women and handicapped people.
Initially, A.O.T. attacked the elderly couple, quickly followed by his
father. Hamdiye hanım fell off her seat and Turan jumped on top of
Ramazan Bey, beating him mercilessly.
At the time, only the elder Turan, the principal at Kasım Ekenler
Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi (a skills/crafts high school) (!) was
jailed but after the video became public the resulting outcry prompted
officials to jail A.O.T., as well.
