In Şişli, Istanbul, Hatice G. (30) got into an argument with her
boyfriend M.E.Ç. at a nightclub.  To get away from Hatice hanım's
wrath, M.E.Ç. sought refuge in a police station but she pursued him
there.  As Hatice hanım tried to hit M.E.Ç. in the police station, two
policemen intervened but she hit one of them, as well. (!)

Although M.E.Ç. forgave her, Hatice hanım was charged with
"deliberate wounding" and "insulting" because the two policemen
would not withdraw their complaints against her.  She faces from 3
to 8 years in jail.

The incident occurred on 23 February when M.E.Ç. complained about
the nightclub's ambience and wanted to leave.  This enraged Hatice
hanım to the point where M.E.Ç. had to flee to the Harbiye police
station for his own safety.  Hatice hanım pursued M.E.Ç. into the
police station, where officers F.B. and B.E. were on duty.  As she
attacked M.E.Ç. the policemen tried to restrain her but she hurled
insults and curses at them, hitting F.B., to boot.  In her statement, Hatice
hanım explained that "an argument erupted between us at the nightclub
and my boyfriend fled to the police station.  I followed him there and
cursed at him. Then when the policemen intervened I lost my temper.
I regret having caused an incident at the police station."
