About 1,500 people applied for jobs as agricultural engineers and
cooperative employees at the Kütahya Agriculture Credit Cooperative.
With regard to the related entrance exams, 180 women were accepted
for the test but none of them were hired, while 53 men were. (!)
Ayhan Barut, a CHP parliamentarian from Adana has brought the
matter to the Parliament with a question-for-the-record posed to
presidential assistant Fuat Oktay. Barut asserted that this amounts to
a sex discrmination scandal, and he explained that "the Agriculture
Credit Cooperative General Directorate issued an announcement for
these 53 positions and 1,500 people applied. From these applicants,
255 individuals were selected for interviews - 180 women and 75 men.
But none of the women were hired, while 53 of the 75 men were.
There are even no women on the waiting list (!). How is it possible
that no woman was hired? Is it a coincidence that all the female
candidates were eliminated?"
