Brad Pitt and Anjelina Jolie have agreed play their roles
in "Ghost 3", since the late Patrick Swayze and Demi
Moore are unavailable. (Not sure if there was a
"Ghost 2").
New details are emerging about a Russian gang that 'rented' yachts in
Mediterranean ports and then stole them. In Marmaris on 13 July, two
foreigners rented the "Ghost 3", a Jeanneau 64-model yacht, from
the firm GMM Yatçılık. The pirates removed the yacht's AIS tracking
device and attached it to a toy yacht, which they then directed with
remote control to dupe GMM while taking the "Ghost 3" out of Turkish
waters.
Investigators have determined that the gang's leader is Oleg Popilov,
a retired Russian navy colonel and that financing comes from
Nikandrov Sergei Nikolaevich. The "Ghost 3" was 'rented' from
GMM by gang member Vladimirovich Sokolov on 13 July. On 11
and 12 July, an 8-member cadre, in two separate groups, arrived
in Dalaman, Turkey, and took rooms in 3 hotels in Marmaris after
meeting at a bakery.
Aleksei Roshchanovskii and Anatoli Shutov, along with two women,
Victoriya Maskina and Dinara Anshakova, drove to the Marmaris
marina in a rented car and boarded the "Ghost 3". The yacht left
Marmaris on 13 July, anchored nearby in a bay at İçmeler and the
four 'renters' departed the yacht and settled into hotel rooms.
On the evening of 15 July, the hijacking operation began with the
newly-arrived pirates putting the "Ghost 3"'s AIS device on a toy
boat, which they sent around the local waters by remote control to
fool GMM. On 16 July, the "Ghost 3" left Turkish waters and the
same day the original 4 'renters' left Turkey from Dalaman and
Bodrum airports.
On 20 July, when the "Ghost 3" did not return as scheduled, GMM's
Haluk Pekşen informed the Turkish Coast Guard, which passed the
word to INTERPOL. Russian police have taken Aatoli Shutov,
one of the captains who hijacked the "Ghost 3", into custody in
Moscow.
According to GMM's Pekşen, "Oleg Popilov's gang has been
operating in the Mediterranean for four years. In 2018 they stole
49 yachts and this summer they stole 37 with the same technique.
Six of the stolen yachts have been recovered. We think that 15
yachts were stolen by the gang from Turkey."
