Ahmet Kıral (55) lives in Çiftlikköy, Yalova and in Novembr last year
he went to a hospital with a pain in his stomach. Kıral was told that he
had an enlarged spleen and would need an operation. So, on 10
November Kıral's spleen was entirely removed and sent to Istanbul to
determine the problem. Kıral was released from the hospital two days
after the operation and told that the test results would be available in
15 days.
However (!), 15 days came and went without any results, prompting
Kıral's son Ünal to go to the hospital to find out what had happened.
Finally, the hospital called Ünal bey to tell him that the cargo company
had lost his father's spleen (!). After doing some research, Ünal bey
learned that "the spleen exploded inside the box it was in and was
thrown away. I have photographs. They just transported it as if it was
an ordinary parcel and not a human organ!"
Ahmet Kıral's lawyer Musap Nayman explained that "organs sent for
pathologic examination have to be packaged in three phases so the
organ does not suffer damage during transit. The cargo company that
shipped the spleen is not authorized by the Ministry of Health. But
it seems that the cargo company picked up the package from the
hospital, which handed it over for shipment as 'standard cargo' rather
than as a human organ."
Where's Yalova?
